I lost myself in a familiar song
Today my mom was cooking dinner and she asked me to go find her a cd she could put on. I went to her cd collection to find her something I think she'd like.
Years ago, my dad thought it would be a really good idea to sign my mom up for a monthly subscription of cds. I think he found the ad in a flyer from the mail. In magazines, I know there are ads where you can sign up and they'll send you a new book every month. So for about a year my mom got a new cd every month (or, bi-weekly? I'm not sure, I was really young). My mom didn't like it, but she didn't cancel the year-long subscription and just took the cds each month and added them to her (lame) cd collection.
Today I went through the cds they sent her and I have one thing to say, THANK YOU DAD. The cds are basically all 'greatest hits' but there are some really good bands. I'm currently importing them to my Itunes now!
My mom's own cd collection is Rod Stewart, Barry Manilow, Dolly Parton, Shania Twain, 'Rock N Roll Hits from the 60s' and a bunch if burned cds from my uncle.
I went through the cds she was sent through the subscription and there is Heart, Boston, ZZ Top, Cream, Bryan Adams.
I went through this phase when I was about 14 when I was really into old rock, especially bands like ACDC and Gun N Roses. My dad really liked that because that's the kind of music he is into.
Lately I've been trying to improve my Itunes because I've become bored with it and WOW! I forgot how much I love this music. I sort of forgot about it once I really got into the Jonas Brothers (heh heh).
(after my old rock phase I went into an underground, indie phase [I listened to some bands that are sort of big today, weird] and after the indie phase I really got into Jonas)
And for as long as I've liked music, I've loved 80s pop/rock music
Belinda Carlisle, Tiffany, Cyndi Lauper, Boy George, WHAM, Madonna (her early stuff, not the crap she tries to pull-off now), George Michael, Bonnie Tyler.
My favourite would have to be Pat Benetar though, hands down.
When my family went to Disney World in 1996, Pat Benetar had a concert there! Can you believe our luck? I hardly remember at all because I was only 5 at the time. I was on my dad's shoulders and we were in the crowd and then my mom had a panic attack and we had to leave. Hmph.
Oh well, it's ok, I probably wouldn't have really remembered much of her performance today.
I love past generations (: Mostly the way they dressed, though.

Although I'm a child of the 90s, that was probably our worst fashion era yet. God, awful. Who invented parachute pants, anyways? And 'crop tops'? Blech.
Sometimes I wish I could just spent a few days in another era. I've had enough of our technology-dependant time (as I type this up on a laptop and get frustrated because a video takes 2 minutes to load on youtube). But really, someone find me a flux capacitor and I'd love to spend a few days in the 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, all the eras I wasn't around to experience!
