'Call me Bud' 'Bug?'
I'm watching one of my favourite movies, Now & Then. Although it was made in 1995, the majority of the movie takes place in the summer of 1970. Which is basically my favourite era of the moment.
I can't remember if I was watching tv or reading a magazine, but it said that this summer that 'hippie chic' is 'in'... really? Hippie chic? I mean, really? Gosh, that's so lame. I wonder if anyone will buy something, someone will compliment them on what they're wearing, and they'll respond with, "Thanks, it's hippie chic".
I love the music in Now & Then, I just downloaded the soundtrack. I already had Band of Gold by Freda Payne because that's one of my all-time favourite songs. The songs on the soundtrack all mostly came out mid-1970 and those songs actually make me reminisce of the 1990s,. I know, that's so off. I wasn't alive in the late 60s, early 70s, though! But all of these songs I heard for the first time watching this movie in the mid-90s. I remember this movie store - Movie World - and I always, always rented Now & Then. I don't know why my mom didn't just buy me the damn movie. So while the rest of my family rented new releases, I always got Now & Then. It's just one of those movies you don't get sick of that was hugely underrated.
The clothes are also my favourite. If you've seen this movie, you notice they're all wearing different coloured canvas sneakers. I'm such a wuss, every time my mom and I would go to, say, Zellers, I would also look at the cheap white canvas sneakers and debate buying a pair. Now that they're 'back in style', every store has them but the ones at Zellers have changed! My luck, huh? So i bought a navy blue pair from Zellers (for $10, the white ones weren't right) and I bought my white pair at Aldo. Not as cheap but probably has the same durability as my $10 ones.
I also love the shorts they wear in Now & Then, mostly Roberta's dark wash, folded up past the knee, much too high wasted shorts. She pairs it with a plaid shirts and I just love it.
And Teeny's raincoat! So jealous. If you know me lately, you know I've been searching everywhere for a plastic raincoat with a hood. They just don't sell those suckers anymore and it's such a shame. The biggest size I can ever find in what I'm looking for is for a 6 year old.
"But you have an umbrel.." "IT'S NOT THE SAME"
Now & Then is such a good movie and is probably going to inspire my summer wardrobe a lot. That is, if I buy anything new. Like in Florida, maybe? :)
All women have a garden, and a garden needs a big hose to water it... or a small hose... as long as it works.
