I'm Straight but Not Narrow
I watched a video today of a bunch of punks harassing some guy because he is gay. They have no idea who this guy is, they know nothing about his life or his family yet they continued to follow him around harassing this guy and yelling "I hate gay people".
WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH HUMANITY!?
Seriously, I mean, seriously? How absolutely rude and ignorant can you be?
In my Challenge and Change in Society class (mouthful, huh?), there was a class debate on gay marriage. If you know me, I am ALL FOR gay marriage. I see absolutely nothing wrong with it. My class, on the other hand, was the biggest bunch of homophobic, uninformed, ignorant little snots I've ever met. I got so riled up I actually started shaking with anger. They were saying things like, "It's so gross" and "They shouldn't be able to show affection in public". I basically felt alone on the side of pro gay marriage.
I wrote an essay on gay marriage for my Family Livings class as a response to someone who was against it (who was saying that gay marriage is not traditional and adds plasticity to the definition of marriage). Here's bits and pieces of my essay:
I completely agree with the whole "traditional marriage" argument. We need to keep marriage the way it was initially intended. Therefore, divorce should be made illegal once again. Interracial marriages should be outlawed and considered unnatural like it was back in the 1960s and earlier. Also, women should be treated as property, because traditionally, when a woman got married, she was property that moved hands from her father to husband.
Honestly, 'traditional' marriages have been changed and altered through the decades and I definitely think gay marriage should be added to the list of traditional marriages. If two men or two women love each other just as much as a man and a woman, they should have the right to marry as well. A gay couple getting married will not harm you, or your own marriage.
The Bible may say marriage is an act between man and woman, but the Bible also says to love thy neighbor. Let's pretend for a split second that your best friend turned out to be gay. Wouldn't you still love that person as you had before? they're still the same person; they're just attracted to the same gender. and if you loved that person as your best friend, wouldn't you want them to have equal rights and be allowed to marry who they love?
The meaning of marriage is not being taken away by gay couples getting married. What about drunken men and women who elope in Las Vegas? They could know each other for just one night and can go and get legally married, just to file for divorce the next day because they were so drunk they had no idea what they were doing. In that not taking away the meaning of marriage?
That's just part of it. I left out the parts with the anthropological theories and whatever.
Alright, I'm done. Sorry for the rant, but seriously, the what hell? Why are people so damn judgemental? What's it to you if someone is gay? Are they harming you or someone you love in any way? NO. So just knock it off, homophobes.
I just don't understand people who are just straight out against gays. Sure, there's the religious view, but the Bible is so hackin' contradicting. I could pick out at least five popular verses that would go against pepole who are against gay marriage.
But, on the plus side, I'm going into modeling! (I'm not, I'm sorry, I shouldn't stick inside jokes in here when you're reading and you have absolutely no idea what the hell I'm talking about and now, I'll just stop).
But in all seriousness, I leave for Bible Camp in a few days.
Ironic?

Love this blog!
I've felt the same at times.
It makes me angry at times that we've progressed so much, yet not really if people still haven't opened their minds on this topic. ughh idk but i liked this blog haha :)
I completely agree with everything you say.
I was once accused of hating ALL gay/bi/lesbians in general. All I did was tell the girl my religion and she lashed out, saying I hate people who are gay. Which is completely untrue.
And I think I saw apart of the video you're talking about. It's sick and pathetic. People are so caught up with themselves and their lives that when they see something or someone different, they can't take it. I wish many were able to just open their minds more, because being closed-minded is just going to hurt themselves and others around them.
